71 Best Activities in Blue Ridge, GA with kids

Are you thinking about taking a trip to Blue Ridge GA with kids? Blue Ridge and the north Georgia mountains are the perfect weekend getaway.

Sometimes it can be hard to find a place to slow down and reconnect as a family. Spending quality time together is an important priority and yet it can be hard to figure out where to go or what to do.

My parents bought land in the Blue Ridge area when I was a little girl and basically built a cabin in the mountains by hand over the next 15 years.  I’ve been coming to Blue Ridge, GA, and its surrounding areas for 30 years now.  I’ve watched it grow and develop into a popular destination spot, but I keep finding new and special gems to explore each time I visit.

Like a jewel on a necklace, the town of Blue Ridge, GA, and its surrounding sister cities glitter all across the mountains of north Georgia.  Blue Ridge, GA is a great getaway for a family with babies, toddlers, and big kids too.  This outdoor haven has so many amazing things to see and do at all times of the year.

Let’s dive into the 71 best activities you’ll find to do in Blue Ridge GA with kids.

When to Visit Blue Ridge GA

Blue Ridge is beautiful any time of year. The best time to visit, though, is fall. Blue Ridge and the surrounding mountain towns come alive in the fall with colorful foliage and fall festivals. This is an essential time of year because it is apple harvest time. North Georgia is considered the apple capital of the south. There are tons of activities and attractions during the fall.

A close second is in the summertime. With so many outdoor activities, summer is a great time to visit the mountains. It’s also a little cooler up in the mountains compared to the heat of a city like Atlanta.

Let’s break down our activities based on the best time of the year to experience them.

Spring

This food tour treats you to all the local cuisine of Blue Ridge and the North Georgia mountains. The tour is 3 hours and guests will sample a variety of tastes as well as learn about the history and culture of the area.

Downtown Blue Ridge playground

This playground is located in front of the Fannin County Courthouse and is the perfect spot to let kids run and play. It is right downtown and picnic tables make the perfect lunch spot too. There are two sections of the playground: one for toddlers and a larger section for big kids.

This yard art shop is so fun. There are hundreds of metal statues all throughout the property. Shoppers can come to peruse the artwork outside which is organized into groups. There are more metal art pieces in a converted school bus and inside the store. There is even a playground for the kids to enjoy while parents search for just the right lawn ornament.

Everyone in the family can experience an adrenaline rush at Blue Ridge Paintball. From Nerf play to speedball courses, there are levels for every age and experience. Play outside on the 10+ acres of North Georgia forest.

This activity would be best for families with older children. How cool to make your own knife? Leadford Works offers a 4-hour knife-making class. Students take a railroad spike and learn the methods of using a forge and how to hammer, and grind until a knife is formed.

There are +10 golf courses tucked into the North Georgia mountains. These courses offer beauty and challenges that golfers will enjoy.
